The Delaware Valley Bead Society (DVBS) will present a demonstration “Bead Embroidery” featuring artist Alice Heinzelman of Tewksbury Township, NJ on Tuesday, November 18 at 7 pm in the Café of the Hunterdon County Senior Center, 4 Gauntt Place - Building #1, Flemington, NJ. The program is free.
Bead embroidery can take many forms—from “painting” realistic pictures with seed beads to creating abstract designs using a combination of beads in different sizes and shapes. In this program, Heinzelman will show how to embroider around a cabochon. Cabochons are gemstones that are domed on one side and flat on the other and most are ovals. They are frequently used in pendants.
The public is invited to attend the demonstration or participate by bringing the following: a piece of felt, denim or any other stiff fabric on which to practice the stitches; a needle and thread in a color to match the fabric; seed beads in a variety of sizes (bugles, pearls, crystals, glass beads, gemstones... the more variety the better); a cabochon (or any large flat bead), and scissors. Cabochons and seed beads will be for sale, courtesy of The Odyssey & Bead Expressions, Frenchtown, NJ.
Heinzelman will present her demonstration during the two-hour DVBS meeting. This demonstration is open to the public but non-members must pre-register. To participate, e-mail your name, address and phone number to odyssey5@ptd.net or call (908) 996-6988.
